How to Switch IPTV Providers Without Losing Your Setup

Switching IPTV providers can feel risky — you worry about losing your carefully organized channel setup, recording schedules, and favorites list. With a methodical approach, you can switch with zero downtime and minimal setup effort on the new service.

Before you switch: document your current setup

Before making any changes, document what you have:

Write down your current credentials:

• M3U URL or Xtream Codes server URL
• Username and password
• Any secondary/backup server URLs

Keep these somewhere accessible (a notes app or a secure document). Even after switching, you may want to refer back to your old setup temporarily.

Back up your TiviMate settings: TiviMate’s backup feature exports your groups, favorites, and settings to a file:

1. Open TiviMate → Settings > Backup
2. Tap Export Settings
3. Save the backup file to cloud storage or email it to yourself

This backup preserves your group structure and channel organization — though channel assignments will need to be remapped for the new provider.

Note your favorite channels by name: Since channel IDs differ between providers, write down the channel names (not numbers) that are in your favorites. You will search for these by name after setting up the new provider.

Step 1: Run a trial with the new provider

Do not cancel your current subscription until you have tested the replacement.

4. TiviMate now shows both playlists — you can switch between them

This lets you compare the two providers side-by-side on your main device. Spend a few days using the new playlist while the old one stays as a backup.

Step 3: Rebuild your favorites on the new provider

With the new provider’s channel list loaded in TiviMate:

1. Go to the channel list and search for each channel you noted in your favorites list
2. Long-press → Add to Favorites for each one
3. Recreate your named groups under Settings > Groups > Add Group

This step takes 20–30 minutes depending on how many favorites you have. The naming conventions may be slightly different between providers — for example, a channel called “Sports 1 HD” on one provider might be “Sports HD 1” on another. Use the search function to find them.

Step 4: Transfer recording schedules

If you use TiviMate’s recording feature:

• Note your upcoming scheduled recordings before switching
• After setting up the new provider, rebuild the schedules from the new EPG guide
• Your past recordings (saved files) are on local storage — they are not affected by the provider switch

Step 5: Make the switch permanent

After a few days of testing the new provider on your main device with the old one as backup:

1. Remove the old playlist from TiviMate: Settings > Playlists → select the old playlist → Delete
2. Cancel your old IPTV subscription through the provider’s cancellation process
3. The new provider is now your only configured service

What does not transfer between providers

• Favorites — must be rebuilt with the new channel list
• Custom channel ordering — must be reset
• Series recordings — must be rescheduled from the new EPG
• Watch history — provider-specific, does not transfer

What does transfer or is unaffected:

• Past recordings — stored locally, no change needed
• App settings (player type, buffer size, interface preferences) — saved by TiviMate, unaffected by playlist change
• Device setup — the app stays installed; you are just changing the data source

Switching providers is a 30–60 minute job done properly. The overlap period — running both providers simultaneously for a few days — is the key to a stress-free transition.
