How to Get IPTV on a Smart TV (Samsung, LG, Sony, and More)

Smart TVs promise app-based streaming but often fall short when it comes to IPTV. The app stores on Samsung, LG, and Sony TVs are curated and restricted — TiviMate is not there, and many IPTV apps are not available at all. Here is how to get IPTV working on your smart TV regardless of brand.

Why smart TVs make IPTV complicated

Smart TV operating systems (Samsung’s Tizen, LG’s WebOS, Sony/Android TV) have different levels of openness:

• Samsung Tizen — Closed ecosystem. No APK sideloading. Very limited third-party app options.
• LG WebOS — Slightly more open. Some IPTV apps available in the content store, and developer mode allows sideloading in some regions.
• Sony/Android TV — Most open of the three. Supports APK sideloading and has Google Play Store, which has some IPTV-compatible apps.
• Google TV (newer Sony models) — Same as Android TV essentially, with a Google Play Store.

Option 1: Native apps (where available)

LG WebOS:

• Search the LG Content Store for IPTV Smarters or GSE Smart IPTV
• Both work with M3U URLs and Xtream Codes credentials
• GSE Smart IPTV has a paid one-time fee (~$3–$5) but works well on WebOS

Samsung Tizen:

• Smart IPTV is available on the Samsung app store — it supports M3U playlists and has a simple interface
• SS IPTV is another option available on some Tizen models
• Neither supports EPG as well as TiviMate, but they work for basic playback

Sony Android TV / Google TV:

• Install IPTV Smarters Pro or GSE Smart IPTV from the Google Play Store
• For TiviMate, you can sideload it via a file manager app — search for “File Commander” in the Play Store, download TiviMate APK to a USB drive, and install from there

Option 2: Sideloading on Samsung (advanced)

Samsung Tizen does not support traditional APK sideloading. The workaround — enabling developer mode and deploying apps via Tizen Studio — is technically complex and intended for developers, not regular users.

For most Samsung TV owners, the native Smart IPTV app or an external streaming device is the practical path.

Option 3: HDMI streaming stick (recommended for everyone)

This is the simplest and most reliable solution regardless of TV brand or model:

1. Buy a Fire TV Stick 4K (or Chromecast with Google TV, or Nvidia Shield)
2. Plug it into any available HDMI port on your TV
3. Install TiviMate from the Downloader app (see the Firestick setup guide)
4. Log in with your IPTV credentials

Your smart TV’s built-in apps become irrelevant. You now have a full Android-based environment with TiviMate, EPG, recording, and everything else that comes with a proper IPTV setup.

Why an HDMI stick is often better than the TV’s built-in OS:

• TiviMate is far superior to any native smart TV IPTV app
• Dedicated streaming hardware gets more frequent software updates
• If the TV is replaced, the streaming stick moves to the new TV
• No compatibility worries — works on any TV made in the last 15 years

Option 4: Screen mirroring from phone or tablet

If you already have IPTV Smarters or another IPTV app on an Android phone, you can mirror the screen to your TV:

• Samsung TV: Use the SmartThings app to mirror from an Android phone
• Any TV with Chromecast built in or a Chromecast device: Use the “Cast” button in the IPTV app if supported, or use Android’s native screen casting
• Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV: AirPlay from an iPhone with an IPTV app

Screen mirroring works but is less reliable than a dedicated streaming device — mirroring drains your phone battery, and the quality can degrade depending on the phone-to-TV wireless connection.
